Forgot if I mentioned it here or not
Saturday there was this town garage sale. Mom was gonna go with dad and shop for chairs n stuff for me
Except she'd buy what she likes
She insisted that she'd get my okay first but we both know her well enough that if I didn't respond (asleep, at work), she'd get it anyway
She's done this before, asked if I was interested in something, didn't get a response because oh look no phones out at work, got it anyway, and then told me "too late already got it" when I got on break and told her not interested
Mom. No. Wait for a goddamn response

Maybe don't tell her what you want? Perhaps she thinks she's being helpful?

Sometimes being helpful isn't helpful, and even good intentions can go awry

This is very much "helpful isn't helpful"

Oh, she ended up getting called into work and didn't go in the end. Thankfully. Who knows what random shit she would've found and bought in the meantime

17 days to closing!!!

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Better-Homes ... /716115192 gonna get this but in blue around then. I'll have to shove it somewhere in the meantime but considering mom n dad should be closing shortly after and then moving, it shouldn't be too long. Maybe end of July at the latest they'll be moved out
Man the house is gonna be empty

More than likely lol
We have a couple of small ones that they used to use all the time, back when the nieces visiting was a rare occurrence
But those have been outside in the rain now so idk if I'd want to bring them inside. Likely go in the move anyway lol

Are you guys going to rent a truck and move yourselves?

Best to get rid of stuff *before* you move. Learn from my mistake!

Like mom is gonna get rid of her yarn, idk about a rental truck for a half mile trip

I'm not the one moving so my stuff is safe lol

Also, they're saying I can't buy the house despite it being an "as is" sale without some fixes
BRUH. I know about this shit. I grew up here
Gonna convert the back room/"office" into a proper sunroom again I guess. With the terracotta tiles

What they want:
1. Remove wood debris from around furnace and water heater (so many years of buildup)
2. Add handrail to basement steps (hopefully dad didn't scrap the one he'd had for a while before we realized it was too narrow with it. But he can cobble one if he did)
3. Repair ceiling in [dining room] with drywall (they said kitchen. Wrong room lol)
4. Repaid flooring to mudroom and kitchen where there are tiles missing (already mentioned, kitchen is gonna be a fuck it, redo floor entirely)
5. Add flooring to office where there is only plywood (as above)
6. Add safety rail around open stairs at 4th bedroom. Appraiser to state impact of value of 4th bedroom when railing is installed (functional obsolescence) [the two bedrooms on that side have a closet door between 'em, and I plan on using that room as storage anyway. No biggie]
7. Add spindles to railing where missing at top of stairs at 4th bedroom (I might say fuck it and have that entire thing be replaced if we don't have the rest still)
8. Appraiser is to address if there is a moisture issue in the basement around washing machine and electrical breaker box. There appears to be mud splashed on the breaker box (basement never flooded that badly, and we can argue that the washer and dryer are on a platform because unfinished basement doesn't have a level floor)

Mom is thinking of peel n stick in the meantime since a lot of that is already on the plans to redo lol
Temporary, but sure

Most of those sound like safety issues. You probably can't get homeowner's insurance with safety issues. Regardless, safety is safety and well worth getting those taken care of. Hospital bills or getting sued will be several orders of magnitude more expensive!

Yeah, peel and stick tiles will work. Easy to install too!

The dining room ceiling was to replace plumbing and dad hates proper replacement lol
Also a lot of the water damage noted is old, no problems since roof replacement bout ten years ago
Except for the basement. When the drainage pipe collapsed cuz old clay ones the basement got flooded
But there was a shitton of rain at the time so it would've been flooded (worse) anyway, but we were dealing with it

Got a week to do it all, and I'm willing to bet I'll have a Saturday mandate

My head is overwhelmed at everything that needs to be done! Hope you can get it done at a reasonable price.

Summer is a good time for a garage sale of your own if you want to have room for newer things.

I don't have room for newer things cuz my parents live here. Once they've moved out I'll have a TON of space to fill

A lot of it is peel n stick or otherwise quick n easy things so that once everything is done and signed I can rip it all out and do what I truly want

Dad's annoyed cuz the sale is meant to be as-is and significantly under market value and they want all this
