I think it depends when you are able to view it.
If you catch it right at moon rise when it just appears over the horizon, then it generally appears very big (magnified). But, if you live in hills like I do, then by the time it rises above the hill it does not appear so big anymore.
See if you can catch the Perseid showers this week end. Utah had a meteor this morning that made a sonic boom coming through!
