The busy season for work is during the summer months, while they are calling for volunteers for my area to come in on Mondays, I think the lack of things for us to do will put a stop to that soon
I am currently running 12 hour shifts due to the fact that I am a backup for another position and am not actually properly trained, so they're working on fixing that

It sounds like you're trained enough if you're doing the job. I guess it's just to check off the box and be official?

I don't know all the stuff related to it. Like fetching the next order and screen? Didn't know before today. I am trained, but how I'm trained is all over the board so I'm missing stuff I should know
So trained enough to do most of it? Yes. Fully trained? No
Supervisor has been buttering me up to my trainer in front of me tho. "Kit did an amazing job yesterday"
And I'm just "supervisor did the first one cuz last time I was shown [other person in the position on my shift] it was a blink and miss it and I blinked change, second change I got most down, but [said coworker] showed me the bit I was missing to get it properly set"
Not every change keeps the same stuff and since it's manual, there's no computer attached, everything for fine tuning is done by hand

oof, I hate when there is not enough time to get properly trained & they expect you to start running.

Sounds like your supervisor thinks you are capable & that is a positive. Hope it means more money!

To be fair, the reason I even started was cuz the one showed me the Most Basic part, and then he was stuck elsewhere trying to fix a different one and it was either get going with what he'd shown me or have a Mess for him to clean up
It went from there, so mostly on-the-go training. Now that things have slowed down and the second got canned, supervisor wants me ready to go. If the high seniority person on first deems me ready after this upcoming shift, we'll have a new second seniority on second begin his training next week
On the plus side I'm getting that higher pay rate

They do but at least I'm back to regular hours next week. I'm still not trained for setup but the one training me said that since I'm a backup, that's less of a priority for me and can wait
Someone volunteered (I think, he may have been voluntold) to be the second one, he starts training next week

Saw my lead, prime chance for a hug (from what I hear he isn't doing too well mentally so he can use all the hugs he can get. Plus he'svery huggable) while he was talking to the superintendent. I didn't get over in time for his question, but judging by the answer, he was asking if I was moving to that second position. Superintendent told him no, I'm remaining the backup

Coworker who is the backup on first (he used to be the first seniority on third way back then): it's $3/hour more
Me: idc. I like [area we're in]
Coworker: fair enough
He would've bid on it but he doesn't like the current second shift hours. If we went back to three shifts he'd jump back into it on third
