Last week I went to the pre-release for the new set of Magic cards and it was really fun! I lost all of my games but i learnt a lot.

(You go and open up six sealed packs and put together a deck using only those cards so it's purely the luck of what you pull)

That's great!

And that's a good way of doing it, so newcomers have a chance, and it doesn't matter what you pay, those who don't pay can still win

Glad you had fun! It seems more fair if you all have a similar hand to play with...how much did you have to pay?

$40 for the six booster packs (15 cards) plus a box that they come in, a dice, a foil card with the pre-release date printed on it and you get the chance to win more packs depending on how well you do!
(The judge gave me a booster pack because he saw i lost all my games at the end  )

That's interesting they give you a pre-release card . I suppose it costs the same as going to a fancy dinner but don't get sucked into buying the more expensive cards!

Honestly, it's fine. They all knew that i was pretty new to the game so everyone helped me out a lot.
I'm only ever going to buy the basic cards so don't worry Lemon!

It's always nice when you get some stuff for free though and special edition ones are more valuable... you can sell them later!

I think you'd strike it rich! (special) Pokemon cards in good condition go for pretty good prices nowadays

I made sure to keep all of my special (and favourite) ones in a card sleeve folder. I only collected them, i didn't battle with them so the only wear and tear is just on the really old ones.

I don't think i could learn another card collecting game, they're much more complex then they first seem!

and to think I gave the Pokemon cards away...that and the 150 Burger King kids meal collection...I'll have to dig through all my boxes and see if there are any still around. I might have kept the gold foil though...

Magic the gathering is pretty complex and it just gets more involved as they introduce new cards and abilities... if you can learn how to play Magic, AliCat, I am sure other games would be much easier! Do they have expo size tournaments over there as well?

My mum says the same thing about those old hologram Pokemon cards that my sibling collected from chip packets, they had the whole set!

The online game simplifies it a lot, i just have to learn to not depend on the online version if i want to play with my real cards! The place where we went to the pre-release often hosts game sessions but i'm pretty sure we have bigger events/tournaments here too.

Ah Pokemon cards, I remember when I was so into them. I don't have many special ones, but I still love them all. I look at them and organize them from time to time.

I used to like looking at the art on them and just reading the text. Probably helped me to remember the Pokemon in the long run!
