I'd actually like to visit Japan although I hear they're not too friendly with foreigners.

What annoys me though is people who think they know all about Japan and its culture because they watch anime. You know, the people who know three words in Japanese and incorporate them wherever possible. "That's so kawaii!"

Npix: you should! Knowing another language is always beneficial and now there are so many programs out there.

Go do it! I'm not good at it at all because every time I pick it up again something gets in my way. I do recommend sites like memrise to build up your vocabulary first though.

It depends where you're going to be honest. More populated areas would have more cautious people. It's the same with Hong Kong, they don't tend to be friendly to tourists either. OTL Don't let it bother you, it's more like a security thing.
