ugh, I really hate brain freeze! And regardless of what is said, it takes awhile for me to get rid of it - even when I put my tongue to the top of my mouth - I end up looking for something warm to put in my mouth or breathing quickly through my mouth to hope my breath is warm enough to warm the palate.

Going from one extreme temperature to another in your mouth can put fractures in your teeth. Just like chewing ice can fracture your teeth as well.

On a side note to that, I read that craving chewing ice is usually a sign that you are deficient in iron.

"Doctors use the term "pica" to describe craving and chewing substances that have no nutritional value — such as ice, clay, soil or paper. Craving and chewing ice (pagophagia) is often associated with iron deficiency, with or without anemia, "

And an iron deficiency may not be because you aren't consuming enough (like red meats etc) but because your body is not absorbing it properly.

...and certain food, like citrus, help you absorb the iron in the food.
