Ashton, have you figured out the event yet?
Choose a student to help. They will give you challenges to fulfill. Go do them ( socialite is post). Sometimes you can do one post or could be 2 or 3.
I do them in another tab, then when I am done I go & refresh the cafeteria page.
Click on help someone else or help that student again.
I don't know if how many times you help them ( top right number) will have any significance.

The characters give different items, I think-
You'll have to help all of them to get all of the new items
