1790 (MDCCXC) was a common year starting on Friday (dominical letter C) of the Gregorian calendar and a common year starting on Tuesday (dominical letter F) of the Julian calendar, the 1790th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 790th year of the 2nd millennium, the 90th year of the 18th century, and the 1st year of the 1790s decade. Note that the Julian day for 1790 is 11 calendar days difference, which continued to be used from 1582 until the complete conversion of the Gregorian calendar was entirely done in 1929.

John Dalton was a major contributor to the modern atomic theory. In 1803 he published a paper, A New System of Chemical Philosophy which suggested everything was made up of many tiny pieces of indivisible matter called atoms.
