lol, no clue Surströmming is fermented Baltic Sea herring that has been a staple of traditional northern Swedish cuisine since at least the 16th century. Just enough salt is used to prevent the raw fish from rotting"

ok, YUCK at fermented a double yuck at rotting herring ( although my parents love pickled herring)

smoked kippers (I'd eat them as a kid but they made my mouth itch).

(yes, i think they're the same thing, or at least similar enough to be. my local dimsum restaurant calls them egg tart on the menu. european/western themed menus i've seen call them custard tarts, and they usually have a more milky flavor and less crust than egg tarts and slightly bigger too.)
