I'm hoping things will get better once next monday gets here, it's my 4 year anniversary! My V-tines day got ruined bc of my $#@&&^% mother. She said she could watch my boys then lied to me and said for me not to even bother asking any time that weekend. So then my mother and I say that loosely bc I SO HATE her right now, anyway she calls me up on tuesday but I let it just ring. Then the hubby saw on facebook that her car messed up. I was happy to hear bc of what she did to me.
I get so pissed of bc she bitches and complains that she doesn't get to see her grandsons much but every time she is in town for more than an hour she NEVER comes over. And she doesn't want to drive SO FAR to come see us, we live 20 mins away if that! SO yeah I had to tell my 3 year old that grandma didn't want him, broke his heart and I hated it. To me the bitch can go f$%k herself for doing that to my son!!

And that's part of what's been going on.

I can tell you are very frustrating and it is always disappointing to depend on someone and have them let you down. I hope your hubby and you managed to make the Valenitine's holiday week end very special for each other anyway...it's not so much about going somewhere as telling each other how important you are to the other.

Do you think your Mom is trying to call to make it up to you to take the kids for your anniversary? Is she nervous about caring for a toddler?
I know people who complain they don't see their Grandkids but don't make the extra effort to actually do something about it...when kids are younger it is not easy to pack them up and take them places...it is much easier for the Grandparent to come over, and also to see them in there natural environment (where the kids don't have to watch what they touch or get into). But I would just tell your son that Grandma had other plans and that happens sometimes with adults. If he thinks Grandma doesn't love him he will not want to be left with her at all and you may need her at some point to help out. As he gets older he will come to see her for her true colors or she may change and become doting (doubtful if she isn't).
It is sad she lives so close but doesn't want to help out more or come over more. Is she having emotional problems of her own right now? If she messed up her car it sounds like she could be distracted by something and in that case might not be a safe place for your kids. Just think if your kids had been in the car with her if she had an accident.

Hopefully you can find other family or friends that can help you out. When the kids are young you have to make sacrifices or become more creative in your alone time with your hubby.Things will change as they get older but I know it hurts more deeply as a parent to see your child not receiving the attention and love that you want to see them receive from family and you can't kindle a relationship very well if the other participant is not willing to be actively involved.

That said it doesn't make the disappointment any less. When your Mom complains about not seeing the Grandkids tell her " you are always welcome to come visit them here, I would love for you to spend time with them". Keep putting it in a positive way but put the onusess back on her.
