A biome is a small ecosystem based on a particular kind of environment. A desert biome, for example, would be all the interconnected life cycles that depend on each other within a desert. Your gut has a biome, too! It's full of bacteria, what many refer to as 'good' bacteria, but the only real difference between this kind and what makes you sick, is that it actively benefits you. You have bacteria in your mouth to help keep it clean, and bacteria in your guy to help digest the more difficult things, like dairy. In fact, the kind of lactose intolerance I have means I don't have enough of those little buggers in my gut doing that, which is why too much is either treated like a poison (immediate evacuation) or just clog the works because no one knows what to do with it (contributing to bloating and nausea).
