The eclipse!

Postby Skinwalker » Thu Aug 17, 2017 5:24 am

Does anyone plan on watching it on the 21st?
It is going to reach totality fairly close to where I live but I won't be able to travel to see it, I have to be at work then :/

Hopefully I will still get to peek my head out and see some of it anyway :>

I'm hoping to peek my head out too, but lately it is overcast in the morning so don't think I will get to see anything

I'll only get a partial
Extremely likely I'll be working when it does happen so I won't notice, in all likelihood

someone said they can't get any of the glasses locally and that when they tried to buy them online it said they won't arrive until Aug 23rd - (that's after the eclipse!!)

I don't really care about looking at the sun, I just want to see how dark it gets.

I'm trying to remember, back when I was in school, how we looked at the eclipse without using the special glasses. I think it involved using paper.

a pin hole and the light goes through it onto another piece of paper. It will be better watching it on the NASA channel or something similar.

Do they have it so the sun isn't blinding?

You can google instructions on how to make a pin hole camera or solar viewer. But they say just put your sun to your back and look at the shadow on the ground.

I meant NASA's coverage of it but those are good tips.

I think NASA has special filters...and and I believe I heard they plan on researching solar flares during the complete eclipse.

Idk how it's going to be where I live since I live in the central part of ky and the western part has the best view of the eclipse, but it better be something.

I work that day, but since I'm in the drive through, perhaps I'll see some of it. Like, without looking at the sun.

at least the lunar eclipses we get to look directly at the moon. I think there is supposed to be another lunar eclipse two weeks after the solar? Any body else hear?

We're viewing it through NASA. I'm only in the partial area and it's supposed to rain anyway.
We can't even plan for a recess that day because even if it isn't raining, we can't trust that kids won't stare at the sun and we don't want to be held liable for any eye injury that results from staring at the sun for longer than however many seconds it is.

If you are talking to me, please ping or quote me. I get distracted and lose track of what I'm doing easily.
