Postby MissAutumn » Wed May 03, 2023 10:59 pm

This thread is dedicated to bird related news.

Today, it has been reported that the tallest duck in the UK, Long Boi of the University of York, has gone missing. Long Boi is a mallard mixed with an Indian runner duck and he is 70cm tall. He shot to fame in 2021 after photos from his Instagram went viral.

Has Long Boi died? Has he found a mate and flew off with her? Who knows but hopefully he will return

oh no! It looks like Long Boi is STILL missing! How sad!

Sounds like they want to erect a statue for him at the University.

Maybe he flew to where he originally came from. Ducks can fly.

Did you know mocking birds can imitate other birds... throughout the day or NIGHT ??
It really is annoying when it is at night!

Oh yes! I remember seeing a nature show about them. They go several days and nights without sleep to "attract" a mate. Very odd behavior IMHO.

Today's news dates back to 1969!

A couple of days ago, the BBC archive released an interview with Mr Glynne Wood. Mr Wood claims a pigeon "lives on his head". This clip has quickly gone viral on the internet.

The combination of the stoicism of Mr Wood, the old fashioned accents and the general matter-of-fact way the interview was conducted makes this really funny.

The interview can be watched on YouTube:

This makes me wonder. Was this the inspiration of Terry Pratchett's character "The Duck Man"?

Update on long boi: he's been declared dead by York University :(. There's been fox sightings in the area so the conclusion is that he was eaten. He was believed to have been a student's pet that was released on the university grounds several years ago.

That is so sad about long boi ... that is hilarious having a bird live on your head but I have seen people walk around with their pet birds hanging out on their shoulders or on top of their heads ... even in the grocery store!!

Welcome back MissAutumn ... missed your humor.

When I saw that interview I immediately imagined that the pigeon was my budgie, Charlie, in a past life. He's obsessed with heads and he loves my husband more than me haha
