Superstitions

Postby Oby » Sun Dec 21, 2014 10:04 pm

Yo so I'm really interested in superstitions because most of them are weird.

From common ones like walking under a ladder is unlucky.
Eating twin bananas will get you twins.
Cutting your nails at night will bring bad luck.
Asking permission to spirits before going to a place.
Skipping the number four because it is unlucky or associated with death.
If you buy a needle at night you'll go blind.
Losing your teeth in a dream symbolizes death for a family member.
Skipping the number 9 when it comes to age.(though I'm not so sure why?)
These are common superstitions I hear around here.

Are there any superstitions around your place?

Not sure if this counts, but if it's raining while warm out in Japan, it means a fox is getting married.

Around here there's one similar to that. Except it's about tikbalang getting married.

Not sure if there's a direct translation for tikbalang though. :'D

So, you'll need a team of predator drones to protect you from the looming black cats.

Breaking a mirror gives you 7 (not sure) years of bad luck.

Never walk alone in the woods, you might not find your way out (okay it's practical but there a tale of spirits leading people around in circles by changing the surroundings too).

Uh, never go to a graveyard on a full moon or new moon, spirits walk then and you might be taken by them.

Most of the things I see here are common superstitions that kind of spread around in my country too, though never heard Silverfire's before. o:

hmm... if you live on a fairy path you need to leave your front and back doors open and a bucket of vvater on your kitchen table and some bread... if you don't the fairies vvill burn dovvn your house in the middle of the night.

you leave the doors open so they can stay on their path and the vvater and bread is an offering for them.

fairies are super evil around here... -clears throat-

also the throvving salt over your -left- shoulder is to vvard off the devil as spilling salt is bad luck and brings him around. it's an odd one but meh.

nevvfoundland has a lot of odd folklore and superstitions.

ahh, actually, my skin is from the Halloween event.
The number 13 is supposed to be unlucky and opening an umbrella indoors is/gives you bad luck.
