Ya, I almost wasted my roasted chicken...thank you very much for scaring me news people...but the fact that we should eat raw veggies but the ecoli etc problems tends to be with raw veggies (look at Chipolte's restaurant and the spinach problems lately) is kind of scary.

I'm sure they had their ways to filter water, by using the sun. I saw a show where this guy filtered out the water from something I can't remember, the image is vague. He used fire, actually, a way of draining out the solids.

Heat gets rid of the bacteria and other chemicals that may be in the tap water.

Off topic, but related to the topic as a whole~

Did you know that putting a slice of bread in with "stale" cookies softens them up again?

I have heard to put a drop of bleach in the water or to boil water to get rid of bacteria. Especially after a natural disaster and you are unsure of whether the water is contaminated or not. But the Japanese came up with a machine to filter our sewage into potable water - in case of an earthquake or tsunami- that is portable. I guess if I was desperate? But the tests that did on it came out clear...

Mousy: I didn't know that about bread and cookies... does it change their taste from stale? (But I like my cookies crunchy! )

Something about softening brown sugar too... not sure if it was bread - anyone know?
