the kind i buy says to dampen them with water and put it in a container with a lid before microwaving so maybe she forgot to do that part....

some food products don't microwave very well so it is best to follow the instructions & also not set to hot.

For example, Onions can often spark in a microwave & fake krab ( made from pollock fish) so they need to be covered & cooked at short settings.
