It all depends on what your goals are. I've found that losing weight by changing my diet (and subsequently getting healthier by not putting so much bad stuff into my body), I've gained more energy, feel much better, and believe it or not, my head is much clearer (I used to feel like I was in a bit of a fog--perhaps the not the right word--sluggish maybe more accurate). As a result, I don't hesitate to do physical stuff now.
It's not that I wouldn't do stuff before, but there's no hesitation now and it all gets done faster since I don't have to rest and catch my breath like I used to (although I can't discount my allergy shots helping a lot with the stamina bits--but I think not hauling the extra weight around and my body fighting the bad stuff in my system must have been a big factor).
I think this all helps with a positive cycle (ease of movement makes moving easier, so you move more--which increase your fitness--which makes movement easier).
The only thing that'll keep you on task is yourself. If you rely on the gym membership as the sole motivator, you've set yourself up for failure. The beauty of the home/non-gym workout is you can start up again at any time.
What ever your do, we support any positive changes/goals you pursue!
