Let's Talk Sequels

Postby Mousy » Sat Oct 29, 2016 7:25 am

So I want to discuss movies.
Specifically sequels to movies.

Which movies need a sequel that don't have one?
Which movies should never have had a sequel at all?
Which movies just need to stop making sequels?

Let me start us off. Toy Story 4 is coming in 2019. I think the Toy Story trilogy is perfection just the way it is. I do not want a 4. ugh!

I think sequels to movies are their way of doing a series without actually doing a series. Sometimes it works but sometimes they seem to run out of ideas and just rehash old stories or sometimes the characters are too old.

As far as toy story having a 4th, weren't they already "collectibles" in the third? So it will be interesting to see how they pull it off without using a different cast of toys. Now the Buzzlight year series was cute, we had it on DVD.

The Indiana Jones movies tried to bring in new blood with his son on, I think the (edit) 4th not (5th)?, sequel. And although I liked Sean Connery as Indiana's Father somehow Harrison Ford is not as exciting to watch as he ages. (sorry HF) so a whole movie with him as the lead doesn't work for me.

okokok. what. why is there a toy story 4. who does that. It's over. Toy story 3 was so sad and scary and final! D:

Lol lemon, saying sorry to HF. haha
Indiana Jones didn't need to have a 4th.

It's not a sequel, but I'm not happy about the boom of super hero movies recently, and how we got a new spiderman again; we don't need to kill uncle ben anymore. :(

I would be interested in seeing Fight Club 2, there's a comic but afaik, no move to make a film.

I was disappointed in monsters inc 2. I really loved the first movie and the monsters university was just kinda meh, yknow?

Thanks, I edited my post - they are working on a 5th Indiana Jones but it was the 4th (Crystal skull) that has his son. I think I got confused because there was a young Indiana Jones chronicles series.

"There have been four theatrically released movies: Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) Indiana Jones 5 (Scheduled for 2019)"

XD so romantic!

Diana I actually like Monster's University, but it may have been the music manipulating my emotions. MU had some gooood music. XD and I agree with the super hero movies. They are awesome, but it's overkill right now. Spread them out and you'll make more money.

@ LC I haven't kept up with Indiana Jones at all, but I did see crystal skull and was like meh. :/

I feel like Neverending Story should have stopped at the first one. I get that it's neverending, but I wished it hadn't been taken literally. Haha!

I don't think I ever watched past Shrek 2. I agree that the music was good for that one.

Now obviously any and all sequels that were the result of a book series are different. Like if they had stopped at 1 Harry Potter, I'd be furious.

I read somewhere that the last of the Divergent series was going to be a TV movie instead of a box office movie. I think that's an odd move. I thought they were pretty successful in the theaters. I'm wondering if it's because of the way the book is written. It completely changes styles in the last book and changes narrators every chapter or so.... I dunno. Haha

I loved Lord of the Rings but breaking up "the Hobbit" into three movies!?!? Totally unnecessary! I was so bored! I went back and watched the cartoon version (which did get the whole story in one movie, btw).

Ugh Yes!! The Hobbit did not need to be 3 movies. I know they did it because LOTR was so successful and they were banking on that, but it could have been done in 2 movies and been fine.

I think one movie for the Hobbit would have sufficed...the best part of the book was in the dragons lair anyway so by past most of the other stuff and it would still work

The movie for the first book of Eragon was SO disappointing! I wish they would do it properly, what was up with that anyway?
