I got a couple of posters recently and I don't want to ruin them.

I had posters before that I put the sticky stuff directly on the poster and put it in my dorm room. Afterwards, when trying to peel them off the wall, the sticky stuff would ultimately destroy the poster.

I decided that it would be best to frame them, but my god, frames are so freaking expensive, even at WalMart. I don't want to pay $20 for 8 pieces of plastic to put on your everyday poster, like omg.

If I knew how to cheaply make frames, I'd do it in a heartbeat, but I don't. It'd end up costing me just as much or MORE if I did it that way and I'd mess up a bajillion times.

I just don't get it, they're not made of silver or anything, it's just plastic that goes around the edge of a poster or whatever to protect it from damage when you decide to take it off the walls or move them around.

I don't recall what they cost (I seem to think it was under $10), but they used to sell "poster frames" which were had a cardboard backing with a piece of clear plastic for the cover/face held on with black or gold U channel plastic. I'm pretty sure they still have them, but the last time I got one/looked for one was 3 years ago.

Dunno what you mean with "sticky stuff". I usually stick mine to the wall with tape. Then upon removing it I wrap the tape around the back of the poster. That way the poster stays intact and I can just tape over the very same spot when I put in on another wall. Noone will ever notice the tape that's still below. xD

tape or those command poster hanging strips, any kind of adhesive people will use to hang stuff up like posters.

do you have a Michael's near you? If you do check for their discount on line and sometimes you can get a good price. They used to have poster size frames for cheap.

I'm also very keen into keeping my posters as if I just bought them. I always end up tearing them in some way shape or form, even using tape, so I really want to find cheaper frames. Might have to settle at getting 2 for $20.

As for Michaels, of course I checked their site, but they're still super expensive. More than Walmart.

buy one get one free at Michaels, starting at $9.99 for small one up to $20.99 for 24 x 36 - which would mean 2 for those price. That is the simple design. Not sure how big your posters are. Maybe the sale started today since it is Sunday. Sales are until Saturdays.

I'd go with command adhesive for the cheap alternative that shouldn't harm the poster or wall.

My boyfriend wanted me to find geeky things to decorate our home with. Found a Final Fantasy Tactics poster and had my brother get it for him for xmas. Forgot about it needing a frame. It's a large 20"x30" poster and a frame for it is $+30, the poster cost that much! But it doesn't seem worth it to go too cheap on frames if the poster cost some money itself.

This might sound silly, but I save all of my teacher posters by laminating them.

I know that several different stores offer laminating services. Staples, UPS, Mardel, and I'm sure so many more do.

what a cool idea! Now, if you were keeping a Poster as a collectible would laminating diminsh it's value at all?

I used the command stuff before and it ruined my wall and my previous posters.

But I found these frame things at Walmart that I missed when I bought the posters. It goes on the top and bottom and comes with a hook that sticks onto the frame. One gave me a hard time with a poster and tore the bottom up just a bit but oh well.

$21 for a frame that fits my posters. I'm not spending that much for frames. I have 2 posters. That's why I got disappointed. The size I need are all so expensive for 4 piece of plastic.

Hmm, I see them on sale on Lemon's link--the most expensive (the largest) shows $12. Perhaps the internets localizes the price you see?

I also had to take into account that different Michaels could have different sales. Because not all McDonalds have the same promos, Michaels could be the same way.

But the 2 sets of frames I got totalled up to $10 for both from WalMart. I missed them when I first initially bought the posters. They weren't what I was expecting, but they work and they hang with a hook, so no tape has to touch the wall and I had places to hang them up in in my room.
