The thing is when the choice boils down to bad vs bad is that, that's not much of a choice at all. Without giving any spoilers, it's pretty poignant because when this line first cropped up, two different plots forced him to make a very hard choice, implying that these kind of choices don't tend to just naturally show up -- someone or something erased all the other, kinder options. In the short story in this book, it's the culmination of different kinds of prejudice and the suffering and hatred it bred.

Initially, the quote was to highlight Geralt's insistence on 'staying neutral' and keeping away from conflicts that don't involve him, but that doesn't really work out well. Prejudice works against him, so he's both the scapegoat and the one that cleans up the mess. And his insistence on staying neutral made otherwise solvable situations grow much worse without his interference.

To reference another quote:

Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere.

"I'd rather not choose at all" could also be taken to mean "taking a third option". If evil vs evil isn't a choice, because someone gets hurt either way, then we have to step outside of whatever situation that forced that dichotomy in the first place. Break it, stop playing by its rules, because life is more important.

OMG that's hilarious HAHAHAHAH

Fanfics can have some really witty and/or raw lines NGL. A lot of thought and creativity went into those works, even though the mainstream view of it is rather bad because it's available for free, published non-professionally, and is a derivative work. I probably also should start collecting quotes from fics as well.

I'm rereading one of my fave TG fics (2 years since last update and latest chapter has a cliffhanger, but everything is so good) and the first chapter has some really poignant lines.

Like this one:

Code Geass left a big impact on a lot of people so I'm not surprised many quoted it.

My favorite one from Bleach has to be the short motivational speech Zangetsu gave to Ichigo early on.
