I am also hoping that this will be a learning experience and develop awareness of how we as people need to reconsider how and what we do while we are sick or when we are around those with compromised immune systems. We all can be silent carriers of ANY disease and some viruses are a life long curse - like cold sores.
There is a reason that our parents said not to share drinks, to cover our cough, to wash up before eating etc.
I hope protocols change...like maybe visitors in a hospital should wear a mask...when you go to the Doctors there should be a separate examining room for those who have flu like symptoms and they should not be in the waiting room looking through magazines if they are feverish or contagious. I mean, there are changes that have been made even the last 20 years for infection control but what can we do to improve even more?
Should we go back to a Doctor making house calls if the whole family is sick? They can wear protective gear then. Or telecommunications or using electronic devices to monitor conditions without coming in contact with the sick person. Seriously, you go to the Doctors, they check your blood pressure, pulse and temperature ...all things that could be obtained remotely. You can even prick your finger at home and have your blood checked for glucose levels etc...why not extend that ability to checking for viruses. Has anyone checked to see if you put a phone against your chest if anyone can hear your breathing or what your lungs sound like when you cough? Would it be that difficult to adapt something to do that?
I think there are people who can figure a way to keep sick people at home but still receive treatment.
