but you eat veggies and salad's and there is plenty of that although most desserts are not dairy free... I always try to make something I know I can eat and bring that if I'm going to someone's for dinner.

There are so many different diets people are on for their health these days that it is difficult to cook the "old fashioned" way. Gluten free, dairy free, msg free, vegan, cholesterol, sugar... nevermind foods people are allergic to...eggs, peppers to name a couple common ones. Vegetarian is easier, vegan is more difficult. But do a veggie tofu stir fry and make enough to share! Or a tofu dessert and make enough to share so people can try it and they may like it.

What do you eat daily? What are you getting your protein from?

Yes but my family doesn't do that themselves really besides my one grandmother... All I could eat today was some unbuttered biscuits made specifically that way for me all of a sudden, some pinto beans, and a slice of apple pie cooked with plant, organic butter instead of the regular butter. The tofu stir fry does sound amazing though, I'll have to remember about that if I ever need it. The table had so much meat on it so there was really nothing for me to eat so... That changes too much to be a definite thing actually, I like to expand my horizons and get things done over doing the same thing over and over. Beans and broccoli I'd say.

What no veggies!?!?!

I try to eat green salads and bring one as a helping dish. Lots of foods are too greasy or have too high carb or fat and I get sick eating them. Next time just bring a veggie dish or salad along....green salad or even a pasta salad. A vinegrette dressing with some chopped onion and garlic and olives add diced tomato and even shredded carrot to a pasta salad- you can make your own little meal.

I suppose you can make mashed potato's with margarine and not add any milk, just a little of the potato water. i love mashed potato's. Garlic mashed potato's are yummy too.

And apple crisp using margarine instead of butter is yummy too.

Yeah, my family really doesn't care about that, they care about the meat really, obviously, hahaha. There was at least five meat dishes to be honest.... I actually don't mind grease and stuff myself (that's what I get for growing up southern!!!) so that's all good with me but yes, I would have loved at least one vegetable medley or corn dish or just something besides that pile of meat and sweets... I'll see what I can do, hmmmmm??? Omgggg that vinegrette sounds so amazing and good, especially with the tomato and carrot, ahhhhhhh oh my!!!! I'd add carrots or tomatoes to any dish if I could, hahaha. They're my favorite in the fruit and vegetables family!!!! Besides apples and peaches!!! I love mashed potatoes too, have since I was born pretty much, hahahaha. I've actually been trying to find a way to make a vegan mashed potatoe, thank you SOO much for that idea, definitely trying!!!! Oh yes I know, I love garlic and ginger and all that!!!

Yeah, I went to my grandmother's for Thanksgiving before hand to help her bring the food and had a long chat with her and she mentioned some vegan alternatives to what I had before!!! Like almond milk!!! It's sooooo good, I got some today!!! You can eat cereal with it too which is ever better, hahahaha. I still need to find plant butter as she called it and she also had me taste some no dairy hazelnut coffee creamer and it's delicious as well and I got that today too, had a cup with it and omgggg, I love being vegan way more than eating everything, ahhhhh!!! Yes, I have noticed that but I sure don't, hahaha.

almond and cashew milk mix is good too... a little thicker texture then just almond milk.

Grocery stores are getting better at carrying vegan food and prices are coming down on some of the alternates.

That was a great roll! :cheer:

Have you tried almond butter or cashew butter, it's more pricey then peanut butter but you can use it in baking too.

if you search for vegan recipe's there are a whole lot to choose from!

Just remember that you need to get your iron from a plant source if you are not eating meat.

If you find some quick and easy recipes that[ you like do a recipe thread like Monkeygirl did for her recipes she's tried.

I had thought so, I just need to remember to do so for myself, hahaha. Ahhhh, do I now?? Hmmm, okay. I'll mention that to the grocery shoppers of the house, hahaha. Thanks a bunch for these tips!!! Wow, that sounds like a great idea to try and do!!! Then I can inspire others to try being vegan by showing them how okay it is and stuff!!! Also with how there are alternatives for almost everything you once loved, ooooh!!!

Vegan is a little more difficult then vegetarian so maybe start with the vegetarian first... butter and cream and eggs are difficult to give up.

I'm... going to take your advice and be vegetarian for a while and then go back to vegan. It is incredibly hard because tons of sweets use eggs and milk.

You have to look at the reason you are giving up dairy and milk as well.
[+] SPOILER
I can't do a lot of dairy because of the fat/cholesterol in the butter, cream and cheese for medical issues, (it gives me cramps and bloating and is also bad for my blood).

Some vegan's believe that eggs are "babies", and won't eat them for that reason but not all eggs are fertilized, some eggs will never become babies...it's just something chickens can do. Some vegan's just don't want any kind of animal product, even if no harm comes to the animal. But I know someone who won't eat them because the animals are caged.

However, you can get milk and eggs from places that are animal friendly places. Animals produce more milk then their babies need so I have no problem with using animal milk. I buy milk though where no hormones or antibiotics were used during the production cycle. If I recall antibiotics take 10 days to get out of the system.

Cream is separated from the milk and can be made into butter so the animal is not hurt. In fact, if you go to a farm the milking animals will maa or baa or moo to remind you that it is time to milk them because their udders get to feeling uncomfortable when they are engorged with milk. They are milked twice a day, mornign and night. Farmers will taper off the animal when they are trying to "dry them up" so that they can get them ready to breed again and start the cycle all over.
Some breeds have a higher cream/fat content then others as well. I had a friend who had a dairy farm and I never saw any cruelty to their animals. They kept the place clean, the animals were well fed and got to go out in the fields during the day. I guess you could say they were happy cows!
