Well, yeah. A lot of fanfiction out there is rubbish. In fact, most of it is. Whenever I go on a fanfic reading spree, I end up closing 99% of them. But there are a few of them that are amazing. xD

Nah.... You turn down the path of evil because of Joey and is Ratatta. Lol. A kid with such high expectations of his lame Ratatta made you turn a dark view on life and you went around bullying trainers at first and then your dreams just got more sadistic with age.

You were bullied as a child, and your parents gave you a rattata, so you put all your hopes and dreams and expectations on that rattata and you managed to defeat all your bullies and finally got your self esteem back to a decent level. Then one day, this stupid Ash/yellow guy comes and completely destroys you...

Lol. I would never play as Youngster Joey... haha. I think Id much rather be a dark demented version of Gary Oak... i mean, think about it... he is always with his Grandfather in that lab and doing research for him.... what if he put all that research into something... much darker.

I think you should play as Joey, and only be allowed that rattata, and try to make your way through the game, with only that rattata.
