BJD owners unite!

Postby EvangelineLong » Sun Feb 08, 2015 3:44 am

A thread for us BJD collectors!

Let's talk about the dolls you own, which ones you dream about. What you do with and for the dolls you own and so on~

If you're not yet an owner of a ball joint doll, you can ask for any tidbits of info here.

Making the clothes and wigs? (dolls are bought)

I saw some photos of Ball joint dolls back in 2006 when I was on gaia and never really understood what they were. Later I found out and in 2010 I got my firs doll from one of the cheaper companies.

Turtle Sensei, there are a lot of new cheaper companies now, so you may just end up being able to afford them. Besides, even "cheap" dolls can be made to look gorgeous by a good face-up artist. :)

Actually you don't need any specific skill.
Having the skills is helpful if you want to spare some money. But basically you can get/buy all the clothes, wigs, eyes, shoes accessories and even furniture from other people.
And there are people who have honed their face painting skills to amazing heights that offer their services too.
I got lucky and had a faceup artist offer me two of the faceups (Qian and Yuki) for free, just because they wanted to practice on other brands heads too.

I myself, since I'm a tailor, making clothes seemed the most reasonable thing to do :D I even sell them in Etsy. It helps me fund my life and hobbies.

Here's a better view on the dress.

The print is hand painted with acrylics by the way. :) It's a continuation from a galaxy print collection I worked on a few years back. Here's a sample of that one.

The clothes can cost as much as human clothes. I know shoes are like 25 dollars?
It all depends where you buy though. there are some chinese dealers who have stuff for way cheaper.

The width of the belt is just about a cm if I remember right. But it's really not hard to work in that scale. You just have to be extra careful and not cut off anything before you're sure it's right. XD

Dollies is kimonos is my weakness too D= I actually found a yukata/kimono at a second hand shop recently and immediately thought I would make it into a dolly version.

I also sometimes think about getting more dolls, but I don't even have them all properly dressed yet! The hybrid (Miro doll body) doesn't have any proper patterns besides a corset.
