Book binding

Postby MonkeyGirl18 » Mon Apr 05, 2021 11:21 pm

Anyone here do any book binding?

I'm wanting to dabble in it and see if it's something I wanna do. I wanna be able to make stuff to sell. I love journaling, so I thought making handmade journals would be a good idea.

Is there anyone who knows how to book bind? Any tips?

I don't but it sounds like a fun hobby. If you get into it I hope you show us your work.

I'm guessing you've tried watching YouTube tutorials already?

Is it the kind of binding you sew or glue?

We did some binding in a printing class I took in Jr. HS. We did sewing and glue binds (really amazing how the glue holds/sticks to the edge of the paper so well!). Nothing fancy or exciting I'm afraid, but it was a neat experience learning how much time and effort went into making books before machines took over.

Both. Like, you sew the pages and use glue to reinforce it. So I guess sewing is the better answer, but you use both.

Historical book binding would be interesting to research, I think I will check that out because I have no clue when books started being bound versus rolled together.

I just want to sell handmade items. Hopefully handmade journals and bookmarks work out for me.

I hope you are able to make some money on the side from it. You might be able to branch out to other hand made items as well. At least it will be fun projects to do.

You will have to post some images if you feel comfortable.

I got everything but a book press. I'm gonna try to make a simple one since they expensive.
