Repurposing Crafts

Postby Huld » Sun Feb 26, 2023 7:39 am

Recently i"e been working on collecting old vases and containers or bowls to create mushrooms for our gardens outside as spring approaches. Is there any one else repurposing items for crafting purposes or enjoy doing so?

You're making mushroom ornaments out of the vases & bowls?
That's actually a very ingenious idea as both are the shapes of mushroom stems & tops.
How do you seal them together?

I'd like to say i came up with the idea myself, but i saw some painted ones while browsing for easy crafts on another site i frequent. To seal them together you simply use gorilla cement glue and let it set, or any other glue that will hold and survive being outside, or in different weather conditions (depending on where you live). Super glue is also an option i've heard, though i'm not sure how well it will hold its seal.

gorilla glue holds really well on other things.

One of our local wineries takes used wine bottles, cuts them & makes them into candles. The label is still showing so they can resell it!

Having a glass cutter to do that would be cool.

I usually do simple ones, like repurposing carton boxes, clothes tags, and various paper stuff, usually into things like notebook covers and bookmarks.

Mushroom decors sound adorable!

Space is a bit lacking, so I focus on creating things with an immediate use!
I think the most I did was some desk organizer out of cereal boxes and tissue cores

That's really smart! I recently went through my craft stuff and gave a good third of it to one of my friends, because it was taking up to much space inside. I tend to leave projects half finished and in two or three rooms, to be picked up again when inspiration strikes and often give away what i do finish.

I like the idea of repurposing or upcycling versus throwing things out.
