NaNoWriMo 2019

Postby Vivianne » Sun Oct 20, 2019 4:25 pm

Please move this if it belongs elsewhere.

With November fast approaching, is anyone else excited for NaNo? (For those unfamiliar, it’s an annual challenge to write a novel of 50k+ words in a month.) I’m planning to write and hopefully finish a snippet I have, though it may be far from 50k words. My intention is to write more, and I’ll see how it goes.

My project is tentatively titled “A Murder of Crows and Other Groups of Disaster,” and it hopefully will be an amusing murder mystery starring a familiar sleuth of bears: the Three Bears from Goldilocks and the Three Bears. This description is entirely deceptive, fair warning.

Anyone else planning a project?

I'm not much of a writer but I may attempt small bits of writing. Like a poem or a short story.

The spirit of NaNo, to me, is simply writing. Writing novel sounds catchy, but any type of writing should be good. I doubt I’ll manage to write a novel, haha.

It's surprising anyone can write a novel in that time. I'll join in my own little way. :)

I don’t know if anyone can manage initial idea+writing+editing in a month. From what I understand, a lot of people just write a draft with planning possibly done before.

I think that's what the author of The Night Circus did. Even to write a first draft is no mean fleet.

50k words comes out to about 2k/day. That’s a lot. My shoulder hurts thinking about it.

I’ll settle for a mostly finished draft of a shorter work.
