The only thing I can really tell you to check for item images is the link to The Item guide I have in the first post. But if you are new then you can check out the shops tab for some common items or even hit the Lazarus for items that will soon be leaving.

Mimi, the Lazarus items will go off sale March 23rd, mid day I think, so my suggestion is to buy those first. Posting in the welcome wagon gives you 20 feathers first and then 10 every time you reply to someone on it. Post in the games to get feathers too and build up for the next event.
