I've only used it for sfx, but animation (like anime) would be fun. (Like a Windlyn promo.) ;)

You model 3d things and composite them into the shots. A lot of considerations must be accounted for to make the end result appear seamless, blender is very powerful. Pixar's (yes, same as used in Toy Story etc.) Renderman is also free for non-commercial use and might be better for anime style, but VRoid might be the fastest modeler for non-experts like myself.

ohhh so if im reading this right, they're more for compiling the elements together rather than sculpting them?
you should try Vroid! it's actually really fun haha

Both will do modeling and animation. Modeling is however is the usually fairly standard tedious grind. And the animation bits are the same in every program pretty much. You can get a ton of free models for both, but there's very little out there that looks like vroid. I will def check it out!

oh no i'm not prepared to attempt meshes,,, they look so difficult and annoying
good thing 3d models are getting more popular nowadays! there's so many more resources than there were back in the days
haha have fun with the hair strands and bones!
