Irish potatoes are just the everyday potatoes. But I'm a nerd, and a bit of a showoff, so I call 'em that to differentiate them from sweet potatoes (which many North Americans call yams, but they're not yams. No, not even the orange ones). The Irish potatoes make my brain swell. I think it's because of the family they come from, which people with type A blood are recommended to stay away from anyhow, and I guess for the reason of As like me! LOL
Personally, I'm not suffering for lack of taters, though, because purple sweet potatoes have all the lovely texture of the Irish potatoes, but a really awesome flavour. Especially with condiments on them, or sliced up into chips.
