Wow! Mine is, too!

Really? Cool. I've never met someone who has the same birthday as I do, or at least, not anyone that's mentioned it to me before.

Right on Birthday Buddy.

I never really thought about half way birthdays before. It seems weird to me to have anniversaries for things that aren't a full thing. Like people that celebrate having dated for a week instead of having a yearly anniversary.

Birthday buddies it is!

Thanks to timezones it's already the 12th of December because I'm GMT+10. Space Australia is in the fuuuutuuuuure.

Mmm, there are people that go on special cruises and flights and stuff so they can celebrate new years multiple times in a few hours because of time zones. I'm not big on drinking so I don't think I'd like it but I'm sure some people do. The fire works are probably pretty too, you just wouldn't really get to experience much of the countries you visit because you'd only be there for a little while.

Why would not being a fan of drinking stop you? Do people normally drink on New Years?

Yeah, here New Years is about drinking, staying up until the count down, having a party and kissing someone when the fireworks/clock goes off when it ticks over to the new years.

Australia has a pretty heavy drinking culture so normally it ends up with people tripping over each other and sloppy make outs.

I'm uhhh... It's not for me.

Oh wow. The only thing I do is stay up until the count down. Though I wish I had a girlfriend I could kiss. Or just cuddle.

Ah, ok, that makes sense.

Yeah, I get that. It's not for me, either. I'm legally allowed to drink, but I don't like alcohol, so I can use that as an excuse for why I don't drink.

Oddly, people here get really offended if you don't drink and try to push it on you. They take it personally like it's some sort of criticism against them that you don't have the same taste as them. It's just odd.

I at least get the excuse of being coeliac so I'm allergic to most alocoholic beverages (most have wheat or barley which has gluten in it that I'm allergic to).

Sorry you don't have a partner bro, must be tough. It's nice to be able to hug people and snuggle up. Christmas time is normally when family asks when you're getting a partner or why you don't have one yet. Unless they don't and I just know nosey people.

I hope you have a good holiday season, even without a partner.

Wow, that's weird. I wonder why they take such offence.

That's a pretty good excuse.

It's fine. Thanks for your being sorry. None of my folks ask that. But it could be different depending on where you live.

Thanks. I hope you have a good one, too.

I think they take offence partly because it's normal to drink a lot in Australia, like it's a societal thing that puts you in the 'other' group instead of the in group. It's also partly that if you refuse, and they do drink, they think that you're either looking down on them for it or you think your better than them rather than you just having different tastes.

It sounds like your family is pretty nice and not that pushy. Do you have to travel anywhere to visit people this holiday?

Ah, that makes sense. I guess some people would look down on them for it.

Yeah, they're pretty great. Yeah, we're traveling to see my aunt and grandpa, who's also travelling there. We don't usually, but my mom noticed how old he is, and wants to make sure she gets enough time with him before the inevitable happens.
