Ah, interesting! It seems hotdogs are used at breakfast as a kind of sausage? Add in the other stuff and it doesn't seem so unusual. I can see the hotdogs/rice/ketchup combo being a go-to because it's so easy to make. Again, I've never run into anyone else that ate this delectable combo!

Now the pictures remind me--fried egg on white rice! OMG!! Now that's a cheap meal, and probably better for you than hotdogs and ketchup. LOL

That was a common meal for my fam in Texas. Altho my mom grew up around the US, mostly in Illinois, Indiana, Arizona, then her final HS yrs in Texas, so I'm not sure which area it comes from. I think it's a typical tight budget meal in the US, though. Certainly not sold in stores or restaurants premade (outside of maybe Hawaiian restaurants?).

I see! It's just a very popular quick breakfast meal here - with the fried rice usually being yesterday's leftover rice. Apart from hotdog, the other common meats are longganisa, tapa, and sisig. And since they're fancier, they actually get served as breakfast menu items in hotels and restos.

Gods now I'm craving for tapsilog.

Speaking of egg and rice... season a cup of cooked rice with some (good quality) soy sauce and sesame oil, then top it with a fried egg with a runny yolk and crumbled nori (chili oil optional), and mix. Really damn good but easy and cheap meal.

Pork buns. They turned out pretty well! Not the prettiest, but very juicy. Here is the recipe I used. I pan fried them instead of steaming.

Last night I made rice and ate it with tuna, a boiled egg, and seaweed. Just somethin' quick.

sounds like sushi without the rolling

I made pudding from scratch.

I am experimenting with the pudding recipe, trying it with and without egg & trying to make it low carb.
Trying batches with one egg yolk versus 2 yolks.
I tried 3 Tablespoons of cornstarch the recipe recommended but came out super thick (but cooks up fastt)
Have tried 2 tablespoons cornstarch which works ok
Tried almond flour instead of cornstarch but need to use either 3 TBS or 2TBS & 1 TB cornstarch with it.
Coconut milk in can works better then coconut milk in the carton
Milk works ok though instead of coconut
Splenda works for sugar free but I tried it with coconut milk and no sweetner at all ( just extract) and I was happy with it.

Iced green tea, to cool down from the weather.
I was given a bunch of red beets, so I'll be making my first borscht ever soon.

Quick, filling meals are the best!

I'm happy to hear that the alterations to the recipe worked out well, Lemon! Changing the recipe can be so scary at times, with the possibility of wasting money and food ;_;

I love borscht! Let me know how it turns out for you.

What veggies did you add to it? Did you cook it with ground beef?

Did you eat it with sour cream?

It is only being cooked right now!

I've decided to keep it fairly simple with no added meat.
Just onion, carrot, bell pepper, and chicken stock. But I do have dill!!
Will do a puree'd version, instead of a chunky one, since I'm in the mood for something creamy and thick.

I have sour cream on hand!!

Everything I touch is now red.

It is amazing how quickly beets can color things!

Oh, pureed is a great way to eat the borscht, mix all those yummy flavors, I wish I could come over & eat some!

I'll eat with or without meat but like the texture without meat better, especially if pureed.

I let the beet I was growing in a pot go to seed. They produce ALOT of seeds.

Your experimentations are interesting, Lemon! I bet the pudding tasted yummy. I've never had borscht before, but it sounds like the perfect meal for the chilly weather we've been having lately. =u=

I have stuffed pepper soup in the crockpot right now. I can't wait to go home and eat it. I hope it tastes good.

I've had stuffed peppers but never had stuffed pepper soup, and I love soup!

What do you use as a base? What do you stuff your peppers with? What color of peppers do you use as the color seems to affect the taste.

I made some coconut gelatin using 2 cups coconut milk, 1 package plain gelatin (you could probably used plant based one) & some vanilla extract.

I did not add a sweetener, I liked the flavor without but if you like things on the sweeter side use either 1/3 cup of sugar or sweetener.
