That sounds like it should be fun, Arc!!

Do they give you a free pass & let you walk around & participate as well?

@ Lemon Cheesecake

It was so fun! Since I volunteered for multiple shifts this weekend, I was given a free pass that allowed me to walk around during my breaks and at the end of my shifts. My position was to work with the Mario game voice actors, and I was assigned to work with the voice actress of Toad and Princess Peach. I helped handle her autograph signings and photos with fans. She's such a nice person, and I loved spending the weekend chatting with/ getting to know her. Watching her interact with fans and seeing the little kids light up upon meeting her was so inspiring. <3

I told her that I'm an artist, so she gave me some encouraging words and asked to see my art. I showed her a comic that I recently made for the local newspaper, and she liked it so much that I gifted her a physical copy. ;u; She also gave me an autograph, and the volunteer Lead allowed me to keep her guest sign as a souvenir since I worked with her all weekend. I want to get them framed eventually!

Lastly, my friends and I were able to meet/ get pictures with the voice actors of Mario, Rosalina, Bowser, and Princess Peach at the end of the con. (My friends volunteered this weekend, too, but were stationed in different areas). I didn't want the weekend to end, but we're volunteering at another convention in December, so I'm looking forward to that! =w=

OMG what a fabulous sounding week end!!!

I bet you were a very BIG help & as such made the people you were working with comfortable. Yay for having your elevator pitch ready to share your interests. You never know where it may lead & the feed back & encouragement can also be a positive step.

She seemed to like how organized I was, and asked the volunteer lead if I could work with her again on Sunday. I felt flattered. ;u;

I'm not getting my hopes up, but I hope volunteering in these settings helps lead me in the right direction in terms of finding my place in the art world. I love convention settings, I've always wanted to work/ sell art at them. Heck, maybe someday I'd become good enough to be a guest? A girl can dream.

Also I agree, dream! Dream until you can dream no more! And then turn that dream into an ambition

Totally awesome!! How wonderful!

You know, you were looking for a career change, Arc. Hmmm... :)

I used to ask people for advice on getting into the industry and I think I'd only been blown off once or twice--not rudely, but not offering anything helpful or just saying they can't help--which for all I know is fair. Most people want to help other people starting out because they've been in your shoes. You have to read the room of course and be open about if and when you ask and they can talk, but it usually works out. They'll typically have a canned response from being asked so many times, but in a situation like you had, they'll usually come back with more information later as the day goes on. You'd be surprised. I used to fear that these people I admired would be very tired of people asking for advice, but when the stars align and you're at the right place at the same time (and if you're not a psychopath--which I know you're not) you never know!
