Okay so Moooost of you know that I teach 5th grade math and science.
If you didn't, now you know.
Anyway, as a teacher, I'm charged with making sure that my lessons are engaging and relevant. Last week, in what I can only describe as a momentary lapse of judgement, I decided that bottle flipping would be a fabulous lab for our standard that we were teaching. That standard is Force and Motion. In theory, this is an amazing idea and so much fun. In practice, I wanted to tear my hair out strand by strand. The kids had a blast! I... did not.
I had 2 motives behind this activity. 1. They will use it to learn our standard and have fun. 2. This lab had them flipping bottles a couple hundred times. I was hoping it would get it out of their systems because they are driving us crazy flipping them in the middle of class and the lunchroom. .....nope.
sigh.... I may have made the bottle flipping worse now that they know the science and perfect technique behind it.
What do you guys think of the bottle flipping?
Have you attempted it?
What's the coolest one you've seen?
