Lemon: I hope I can, that'd be great. I pulled out my digital typewriter for classes starting January 18th and as well as my daughter.

Well, I went to the doctor last Friday and I found out that I have a walnut-sized tumor in my thyroid. I'm guessing that this is the reason I can't lose weight no matter what I do. I'm super scared. I haven't told my older kids yet. I want to wait until after thanksgiving because I don't want them to get upset or scared. I want them to just have a relaxing and fun thanksgiving.

Sorry to hear that. Health stuff certainly gets your attention, but it's always important to stay positive!

The good news under worst case scenario is: "Thyroid cancer is one of the most treatable kinds of cancer. Surgery to remove the gland typically addresses the problem, and recurrences or spread of the cancer cells are both uncommon."

The overall good news is treatment may solve other related issues you might have (other than weight). Your thyroid affects all of your systems.

I know a few people who have had thyroid tumors (overwhelmingly older women interestingly) who are just fine today. Have you been scheduled more tests or been referred?

I am sorry to hear that too Shamus!

But on the bright side, maybe you have found out what is causing other issues and the good news is there are so many new ways to treat medical conditions now. Did the Doctor also run blood tests on you? That can be a good indicator of what may be going on.

I will hope & pray it is easily treatable for you, even if it is removal.
A good question to ask, for your kid's sakes, if this is a hereditary issue? My Grandma did suffer from thyroidism & had to have her thyroid removed so I mention it whenever I see a new Doctor, just in case some of my issues could be from that.

I am so glad they found it while it is small!

Is it a goiter or an actual tumor? Did they do an ultrasound or other tests yet to check it?

Does it affect your swallowing?

anyways..don't wanna butt in, Just wanna ask did the tumor got biopsy already? or scheduled for one? or for imaging perhaps coz from there the doctor will know more about it.. so you can rest the worries too.

at this age its really a must to have annual general check -up as we age... even if we don't feel anything bad. I myself is guilty, I only go to the doctor if I feel something bad but that changed recently for some reason..
