You earn feathers by posting around. There are a lot of great places to post and hangouts help by giving you 10 feathers per post.
Wings are the donation currency. You can sometimes win them from site events.

Hello!

You can earn Feathers (site's main currency) through (as everyone has previously mentioned):
-playing the games in the game room (Doughnut Game & Spelling Bee)
-posting on the threads and forums (You can get either 1, 3, 5, or 10 per post)

You can also get feathers from:
-Lemon Cheesecake's Dice Rolling Game Threads (she also gives out items as prizes sometimes, though you gotta request it if/when you win) e.g. this one
-Various other threads where one can win Feathers as prizes

Some other stuff to check out:
-Fishing (appears when you hover over the Game Room tab) -- get cool free space-themed items!!
-Various Shops in the Shop tab (hover over the icons of each shop and it'll tell you what each shop sells)
-Yard Sale and Giveaway Threads -- Some users have extra items they'd like to put up for trade/giveaway, so check those threads out. Two users who I know for sure have Yard Sale/Giveaway threads are Akuyi and Cloudy
